The Circuit Court of Cook County's Fourth Municipal District is made up of the following municipalities and townships in the western suburbs of Cook County: the municipalities of Bellwood, Berkeley, Berwyn, Broadview, Brookfield, Cicero, Elmwood Park, Forest Park, Franklin Park, Hillside, La Grange Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, North Riverside, Oak Park, River Forest, River Grove, Riverside, Stone Park and Westchester; and the townships of Berwyn, Cicero, Leyden, excluding that part lying within the territorial limits of the municipalities of Rosemont and Schiller Park, Oak Park, Proviso, River Forest, and Riverside.

The Fourth Municipal District hears cases involving:*

orders of protection
stalking/civil no contact orders
housing
eviction proceedings
small claims
licenses
misdemeanor criminal proceedings
felony preliminary hearings
ordinance and traffic enforcement
contract cases decided by alternative dispute resolution process

civil suits for damages up to $100,000
mandatory arbitration (less formal proceeding with three-member panel deciding case) in suits with damages of $30,000 or less
name changes
marriage and civil union court

*The following types of cases are also heard in the municipal district courthouses: felony criminal cases; domestic relations cases; juvenile justice cases; and law division tort cases seeking damages in excess of $100,000.

Notice to Attorneys and Litigants

a. An attorney or litigant who is running late may call either the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court at (708) 865-6100, 865-5991 or 865-4973 or the Presiding Judge’s office at (708) 865-6060 and ask that a message be taken to the courtroom.

b. If an attorney or litigant is unable to make it to court or wants a continuance, a motion must be filed in the Clerk’s office for the courtroom where the case is pending. You cannot get a case continued over the telephone.

c. To determine whether a case is on the call and the location, an attorney or litigant should contact the Clerk’s office at (708) 865-6100, 865-5991, 865-4973 or 865-6040.

d. Pro se litigants (people without lawyers) are allowed to represent themselves but are held to the same standard as a lawyer.

e. When you receive notice that you have been sued, make sure you attend each and every court date. In a civil case, you will be required to file an appearance and depending on the amount of the suit, an answer to the complaint.

The courthouse is located south of the Eisenhower Expressway (I290), north of Madison Street and behind the old ComEd complex.

Parking:
Parking is currently free in lots located immediately in front of the courthouse and along Maybrook Drive. Designated parking is available for jurors.
