The Mental Health Court is a two-year voluntary probation program that was first implemented in May 2004. Before the program received grant funding, there were a limited number of participants whose probation could be addressed. Recent grant submissions allowed the program to expand from 25 participants to 75 current participants.
The mental health branch of the specialty courts assists individuals arrested for nonviolent, nonsexual felonies who have some level of mental health issues and problems with alcohol or other drugs.
