Standard Supervision (Diversified Caseload)  

The Social Service Department's Diversified Caseload Unit provides individualized supervision and specialized interventions to individuals placed on supervision or found guilty by the court of any of a multitude of felony, misdemeanor, traffic, and ordinance offenses.  Such offenders receive a court order of reporting supervision or reporting conditional discharge sentence. The department uses a comprehensive evidence-based assessment tool to match the degree and level of services to the offender's risk of recidivism.

A core function of the Diversified Caseload caseworker is screening and assessment.  Caseworkers use advanced assessment tools and motivational interviewing to match offender needs with treatment plans that will assist offenders in meeting the requirements of court mandated conditions.  Caseworkers also address other life issues likely to perpetuate the offender’s involvement in the criminal justice system.  Diversified Caseload caseworkers frequently coordinate services with community-based agencies for issues such as substance abuse, mental health, housing, employment, and education.       

Many offenders reporting to the department on Diversified Caseloads have charges consisting of Driving Under the Influence (DUI), reckless driving, or driving while license suspended.  DUI offenders monitored by the department’s Diversified Caseload are typically Risk Level II Significant according to their pre-dispositional assessment, indicating significant problems related to substance abuse. 

Diversified Caseload caseworkers also conduct cognitive-behavioral groups with DUI offenders.  The groups are designed to change thinking patterns related to poor decision making by DUI offenders.
