The Sixth Municipal District is organized by courtrooms, key dates, judicial assignments and standing orders.
Traffic and misdemeanor cases (with the exception of domestic violence cases) are scheduled by use of the “key date” system. Under the “key date” system, each municipality is assigned certain day(s) of the month for its cases. The key date system allows police officers and other enforcement officials to attend court on a regular basis and still be able to carry out their other duties away from court.
The Sixth Municipal District sends a judge and court personnel to 12 municipalities to preside over minor traffic and ordinance violation cases. The 12 towns are as follows: Burnham, Calumet Park, Chicago Heights, Flossmoor, Homewood, Lansing, Lynwood, Park Forest, Riverdale, Sauk Village, South Chicago Heights, and Steger. These courtcalls are referred to as "outcalls." Outcall court proceedings are held in courtrooms provided by each municipality, in either the local police department or village hall. Court fines can be paid on site to the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court. On site payments will only be accepted for cases on the daily court call. Payments made thereafter must be made in person or by mail to the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, 16501 South Kedzie Parkway, Markham, Illinois 60428.
Felony, domestic violence and civil cases are scheduled in the courtroom as assigned by individual calendars per the judge hearing the case.
Sixth District judges are assigned to courtrooms by the Presiding Judge of the Sixth Municipal District. Assignment changes are at the Presiding Judge’s discretion and are made by court order.
