Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act
If you are a minor, the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act requires that an adult family member (someone over 21 who is your parent, grandparent, step-parent who lives with you, or a legal guardian) be notified before you can obtain an abortion. However, there are some exceptions to this rule that permit a minor to obtain an abortion without an adult family member being notified. One of these exceptions allows the minor to apply for a court order that waives the notice requirement, otherwise known as a “judicial bypass” There are no filing fees and the proceedings are confidential and sealed.
