FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
237 attorneys file applications for associate judge
Released On 02/26/2002
Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans today released the names of 237 attorneys who have submitted applications to fill seven vacant associate judge positions in the Circuit Court of Cook County.
The qualifications of the applicants will be reviewed by bar associations and a judicial nominating committee to be named by Chief Judge Evans. The judicial nominating committee will ultimately select a slate of candidates that is twice the number of vacant associate judgeships. The circuit court judges then will cast secret ballots to fill the seven vacancies. Any additional associate judge vacancies that occur during the nominating process will be filled in the same manner.
Associate judges differ from circuit judges in the manner of their election, length of term and salary. Associate judges are not elected by popular election and serve for four years.
Chief Judge Evans said, "The judicial nominating committee traditionally encourages the public to submit written comments concerning any of the associate judge applicants so that it may properly consider that information." Letters should be sent to the Circuit Court of Cook County Nominating Committee, c/o Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans, 2600 Richard J. Daley Center, Chicago, Illinois 60602.
Attached is the list of applicants who have applied for the position of associate judge.
