Judge Marisie appointed Acting Presiding Judge of Third Municipal District

Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans today appointed Honorable Jill C. Marisie to serve as the Acting Presiding Judge of the court’s Third Municipal District. The appointment is effective immediately.
Judge Marisie was elected a circuit judge from the 13th Subcircuit in 2006. From December 2006 to February 2007, she was assigned to the First Municipal District hearing traffic matters. In 2007, she was assigned to the Third Municipal District where she has heard a variety of criminal, civil, and quasi-criminal matters in rotation with other judges.
Judge Marisie also presides over the Mental Health Court and Veterans Treatment Court in the Third Municipal District, problem-solving courts that offer treatment as an alternative to incarceration. She has also served as Acting Presiding Judge of the Third Municipal District in the absence of the Presiding Judge.
“Judge Marisie possesses a commitment to justice and fairness that will serve her well as she leads the judges in the Rolling Meadows courthouse,” Chief Judge Evans said. “Her work with veterans and defendants with mental illnesses has shown me that she knows that there are times when the court can be compassionate and emphasize treatment over punishment. This approach improves the quality of life in communities throughout Cook County.”
The court’s Third Municipal District serves the residents of 24 municipalities in northwestern suburban Cook County. As Presiding Judge, Marisie will oversee 20 judges, administrative support staff, and all court operations in the Third Municipal District’s Rolling Meadows courthouse.
Judge Marisie succeeds Third Municipal District Presiding Judge William O. Maki, who retired today.

Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Marisie was in private practice with Erbacci, Cerone & Moriarty, Ltd. (now known as Erbacci & Cerone, Ltd.) from 1994 to 2006. As an associate with the firm, she focused on criminal defense, labor negotiations, civil litigation, divorce, and real estate. She also represented City of Chicago employees with Local Unions 1001 and 1092 before the City of Chicago Personnel Board and served as an arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program. From 1991 to 1994, Marisie served as a Cook County assistant state’s attorney and was assigned to criminal, traffic and juvenile matters and performed appellate work.
Judge Marisie received her J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 1990, graduating cum laude, and earned a B.A. in history, political science, and Spanish from Marquette University in 1987.
